I went to Starbucks to do a mountain of homework, not intending to buy anything because I do have a coffee budget!
By 12:15 I was starting to get hungry and I really didn’t want to go home for lunch yet. Then I heard the barista calling my name:
“Meredith, do you want an iced double tall soy caramel macchiatto?”
Uh, YES! It turned out to be a mistake drink, so she was giving it away instead of throwing it down the drain. Luckily she hadn’t even put the caramel on top yet (caramel sauce at Starbucks contains butter).
This little surprise snack kept me going for another hour and a half!
I made a hummus + ton-o-spinach sandwich for lunch when I got home. I am really digging this whole wheat bread I got at WF for $2.99!

Whenever I go to a cafe to do work, I feel like I HAVE to order a drink. I feel bad if I don’t. YAY for free Starbucks! A soy caramel macchiatto sounds amazing! I always ask for it without the caramel on top because I’m not a caramel fan. I didn’t know it contained butter! That’s so strange! Can you just order a macchiato? lol
Caramel macchiatos have vanilla syrup inside, milk, espresso, and the caramel sauce on top. It’s just the caramel sauce on top that has the butter (and caramel SYRUP does not have butter — just caramel SAUCE– confusing, right?)! A plain macchiato would be really disappointing (I think) – it’s just a shot of espresso with a tiny scoop of foam. Macchiato means marked, so a regular macchiato is espresso marked with foam, whereas a caramel macchiato is basically a vanilla latte marked with the espresso on top (instead of on the bottom like most lattes) and caramel on top.
